The Nebulae Gallery. A Nebula is a cloud of gas and dust in outer space. Many are incredibly beautiful. NASA/ESA provides nebula images, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and the JWST, to the public*. I use Photoshop to creatively manipulate these images and then use them as "backgrounds" in my paintings. The Orion, Lagoon and Carina nebulae are most frequently used. A "background" may appear as sky or as a reflection upon objects in the painting. In some paintings the nebulae are clearly apparent, in others less so.

Awe of nature lifts the spirit and it's been an important part of my spiritual journey. I am awed by the incredible beauty of our universe and this awe is reflected in my art. I strive to infuse my paintings with light, to envision other worlds, and possible futures.

The Nebula Series is dedicated to my late wife, Peggy, who loved astronomy and looking up at the stars. Sharing these loves was an important part of our 36 year relationship.

Note: My paintings' descriptions are tentative. They change and evolve in time as I come to find new meanings - some uncovered by viewers. I hope that you will find your own and share them.
